The Pinkster Festival

The Pinkster Festival will have everything from spoken word performances and dances to the beat of African kora, live art, a call-and-response song with visitors, and more. Pinkster, brought to the New World by the Dutch, became an important holiday for enslaved Africans, who celebrated with dance, music, storytelling, and games. It provided one of the few opportunities for enslaved men and women to travel to family members. Though the harsh reality of enslavement was still a part of life, Pinkster was a time of celebration. Philipsburg Manor has been celebrating Pinkster since 1977, making this event the longest-running Pinkster event in North America. 381 N Broadway, Sleepy Hollow, NY 10591
