Celebrating 110 Years of Girl Scouts, One Campfire Song at A Time
For 110 years, Girl Scouts have found a way to dream big and do good. From reaching the outer limits of space to stocking their local food pantry, there is no challenge too big or need to small for a Girl Scout to tackle. Since day one, girls have found a way to create a better future for themselves, their communities, and the world. Let’s celebrate the problem solvers, go-getters, dreamers, and doers who are creating a better future for us all.
Just in the past two years, members of Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson (GSHH) have shown their grit, perseverance, and passion for helping others in the face of incredible uncertainty. Girl Scouts have collected goods to distribute to their neighbors in need, created programs to help seniors navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, and identified environmental concerns and implemented solutions in their communities.
Girl Scouts is a sisterhood. Whether meeting in-person or virtually, Girl Scouts throughout the Hudson Valley have continued to deepen their connection with the Girl Scout community and broaden their engagement with the Girl Scout Mission of ‘Building Girls of Courage, Confidence, and Character who will make the world a better place.’
One of the best ways for Girl Scouts to gain a deep understanding and appreciation for the Girl Scout sisterhood is by attending a Girl Scout summer camp. When girls attend a GSHH summer camp, they experience a fun, safe, girl-led environment that allows them to explore their interests, meet new friends, and learn new skills.
Families can choose from two GSHH summer camps depending on their wants and needs, a day camp and an overnight (resident) camp. GSHH’s day camp is Camp Addisone Boyce, located in Tomkins Cove, NY. This Rockland County camp features a large lake for boating and fishing, trails for hiking, a low ropes course, game field, and a pool. For campers and families looking for an overnight camp experience, GSHH’s Rock Hill Camp in Mahopac, NY is the place to be! Celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, Rock Hill Camp is set on 190 wooded acres that feature cabins, platform tents, a large lake for boating and swimming, hiking trails, an archery range, ropes courses, and plenty of space for games, arts & crafts, and more!
Both camps offer girls the chance to become more independent, have a break from their typical routine, and become part of a 110-year tradition. Families looking for an enriching and fun experience for their girls this summer should visit girlscoutshh.org/camp to learn more about Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson’s summer camp options.
