East Coast Sport & Fitness in Yorktown Heights
Do you have an active kiddo in multiple sports? Then, you definitely have to check out East Coast Sport & Fitness, a newly revamped multi-sports complex (formerly Solaris Health Club) where young athletes and families can be active under one roof. This includes soccer, pickleball, basketball, and baseball as well as enjoy access to their on-site gym, personal training, and classes. The facility also offers a variety of camps and clinics and programs for tots. Revamped in April 2023 with a new vision from its owners, Jason and Erin Cohen and co-founder, Kelvin Espinosa, the 40,000-square-foot facility has something for everyone with some exciting new additions. Check out more below in our latest interview.
Westchester Family: Tell us more about your background before East Coast Sports and Fitness.
East Coast Sport & Fitness: Jason is a CPA who has worked for 25 years as a CEO/CFO in commodities but has always had a passion for sports and coaching in his spare time. Erin is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has been on the Byram Hills Soccer Club Board of Directors for six years and has managed her sons’ various sports teams as a way to stay involved in the community. When not working Erin and Jason usually attend their three boys’ games, practices and training as they participate in various sports all year round.
Our co-founder, Kelvin Espinosa, started his East Coast Elite baseball eight years ago in the same building (Solaris Sports) and feels it is a full circle moment for this now to be the permanent home of East Coast Elite Baseball. He is a dad of two girls and has a strong presence in the local baseball community where he also lives. He will also be the co-director of Baseball Operations along with Paul Martinez (dad of three boys and former President of Briarcliff Manor Little League).
Westchester Family: What are some of the services and amenities people can find at East Coast Sports and Fitness?
East Coast Sport & Fitness: Our programs are taught by professional coaches who are dedicated to this mission and provide comprehensive programs every season to kids of all ages and all athletic abilities -skills, sports, sportsmanship, mental health, academic planning, strength and conditioning. Having the space at our 40,000-square foot facility enables us to design the programs we envision but still maintain the feeling of community that is true to Solaris. While the name may be different, you will see all the familiar faces and programs that you are currently enjoying as well as many new programs, instructors, coaches that can’t wait to meet you and share what they have to offer! We have many exciting new plans on the horizon for the former Solaris, Yorktown, and surrounding communities in Westchester County.
Westchester Family: What can people expect at East Coast Sports and Fitness?
East Coast Sport & Fitness: Our mission is for everyone to be able to be active all under one roof. We believe that one size does not fit all when it comes to sports and fitness and will provide programs for all activity levels, abilities and ages.
Our space allows our coaches and instructors to teach sports the way they are intended to be played as well as provide a variety of sports, strength and fitness classes and programs all while maintaining that family and community feel. Whether you are a Division One athlete, new to a sport, a kid who wants to play, or just want to get a work out in, you have a home here.
Westchester Family: Tell us more about some of the changes to the facility.
East Coast Sport & Fitness: We installed 16 new baseball tunnels (they can be moved so we will still have the use of the facility for all our soccer, field hockey and lacrosse programming) on the 17,000-square-foot turf. This will be the home of the East Coast Elite club baseball team, led by professionally trained players or coaches who are passionate about the sport and teaching while keeping the sport fun!
We also renovated the cafe area and lobby and added brand new vending machines (including coffee and tea service!). Additionally, we will have food served during all of the special events and tournaments.
We made the party room/spin room into one large multi-purpose room with new floors and mirrors and a fresh coat of paint. This room will be used for gym classes (Zumba, Yoga, Hip-Hop), tot classes, a conference room, birthday parties and any other needs our members may have.
We also have a new system, website and app where guests can login and make payments, view programming, book lessons, camps, personal training, gym classes, and sports program. Our goal is to make your experience at the facility as easy and seamless as possible!
We are also excited to bring back our personal training and classes with our full time personal trainers. Our gym membership will now include discounts to personal training, birthday parties, internal classes, clinics, summer and holiday camps, gym classes and other special occasions. There also will be set times for open basketball to be able to plan your hoops times. We also have a summer program for kids with our first multi-sport, basketball, and baseball programming as well as a Summer program for tots. We will also pickleball, including a women’s tournament.
Westchester Family: What are some of your favorite things to do in Westchester?
East Coast Sport & Fitness: We are all parents. We love coaching and attending our children’s/players sports games and seeing all the different fields and facilities our county has to offer. We love to support the local restaurants and ice cream places (shout out to King Kone) and attend all the local events to support our cohesive community. Hiking on one of the many beautiful trails with our dogs or biking is also a great activity.
