Exploring Lyndhurst

The vast amount of historical locations and places in Westchester is quite incredible. One place to get on your radar is a visit to Lyndhurst. Located on a 67-acre campus on the Hudson River, Lyndhurst is open from April-December where you and your family can enjoy campus tours, tour the mansion, explore the gardens, and check out one of their events.

Dubbed one of “America’s finest Gothic Revival mansions,” Lyndhurst was designed in 1838 that was once lived in by three families and their staff. Incredibly, 50 pieces of furniture from that original design are still in the house today. It was later designed as a National Historic Landmark in 1966 as a museum, allowing guests to enjoy access to its incredible campus, gardens, and buildings.

Lyndhurst Grounds Tours

Guests who would like to explore its grounds/grounds can enjoy a grounds pass for $10 per person. To explore the actual mansion, guests would need to get a Classic Mansion Tour or an Upstairs-Downstairs Tour.  The Classic Mansion Tour runs from September 28th-October 31st from 10:00am-3:00pm where guests can see and learn more about its 16 rooms. This includes access to the parlor with furniture designed by architect A.J. Davis and the Civil War-era dining room. Additional details include original European paintings, Tiffany stained glass windows, and more decorative arts. This also includes the chance to see the mansion decorated in fall decor, and later in holiday decor in the winter.

Another mansion tour is the Upstairs-Downstairs Tour. This tour is a climbing and walking heavy tour that takes guests through 25 rooms where you will view the basement level with its kitchen, servant spaces, and service spaces as well as to the top of the tower. However, due to a heavy wasp infestion, this tour will be closed for the rest of 2023.
