As parents, finding ways to keep your kids occupied and having fun can become pricey (a surprise to absolutely no one), so sometimes you need events that offer fun without breaking the bank. We all want to find a safe and fun space for the little ones in our lives without having to worry about fitting it into the budget. And who doesn’t love a free event? This goes for all ages: parents, grandparents, and kids; free is arguably one of the best words in the English language to anyone. So, we’ve decided to bring our Westchester families the scoop on some of the best free events this week in and around the area.

Art Reception: Black History Month Exhibit

Black History Month Activity Station

Head to the library for an exciting Black History Month Activity Station. Immerse yourself in a variety of engaging drop-in crafts, interactive activities, and a fun seek’n’find game that celebrates the rich history and contributions of Black culture. The activity station will be open throughout the entire month in the Children’s Room, providing a welcoming space for all ages to learn and create. Grinton I. Sunday Afternoon Concert Series: Celebrating Black History Month with Tenor Brandon Hornsby-Selvin

Tenor Brandon Hornsby-Selvin is set to honor Black History Month with a recital featuring classical pieces, spirituals, and beloved Broadway songs. Art Exhibit for Black History Month – “Cardboard Comes to Life”

Drift Studio is proud to present “Cardboard Comes to Life,” featuring African American artist Tanya Evans-Johnson, from February 1 to 28, 2025. Tanya, a local artist, creates sustainable art using materials salvaged from everyday trash that would otherwise end up in landfills and oceans. Artwork is available for sale, and a price list can be found in the Gallery. For inquiries, please reach out directly to the artist at treunique@aol.com.

An Art Opening Reception is scheduled for Sunday, February 9, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, and light refreshments will be provided. Lunar New Year

Beginner Friendly Yoga

NAMI Westchester is excited to announce the launch of their Wellness Programs, featuring monthly yoga sessions on Sunday mornings from 9:45 to 11:00 am. The classes will be led by Nancy Kardon from Iyengar Yoga Scarsdale and will take place at the Temple Israel Center of White Plains Gym. The program is offered at no cost, but a donation of $10 per session or $40 for the entire series is suggested. All donations will support NAMI Westchester in sustaining their free programs.

Fred Elser First Sunday Science: All Things Raptor

Christine Peyreigne of Christine’s Critters will host an educational session on raptors and birds of prey, featuring live hawks, owls, and falcons. A licensed apprentice falconer at 16, Christine founded Christine’s Critters Inc. in 2015, a non-profit focused on wildlife rehabilitation and education. Her organization houses 23 non-releasable ambassador birds and rehabilitates over 100 injured birds annually. This free event, part of the Fred Elser First Sunday Science program, does not require a beach pass. Guests should notify the gate staff of their attendance at the Bruce Museum Seaside Center lecture.
