Westchester Family: How did the idea for bette green come about?
Sarah Shooman: bette green is an indie skincare brand cleaning-up and uncomplicating the beauty landscape for girls (and their moms) everywhere. Purposefully designed to be easy to use, easy to understand and fun to experience, the bette green Cleansing Stick sets our girls up with a ritual they can turn to again & again. Plus, it introduces them to expect and demand a high standard from their beauty products from the start. At the heart of bette green is the shared beauty experience between generations and the lifelong connection this can create.
When my daughter was a baby there were so many amazing bath and body options but as she started to grow up, I noticed a real lack in quality skincare options for her. Everything was either too babyish or to be honest, kinda junky. I set out to create an everyday essential that’s safe, natural, efficacious and above all else is easy to use and feels-good. I’m really proud to say bette green achieves just that, naturally clean, fuss-free skincare, making it easier for moms to pass down beauty rituals and easier for tweens to take control and feel good in their skin.
Westchester Family: Why was it important for you to focus on skincare for girls?
Sarah Shooman: Kids grow-up fast and unlike mood swings, healthy habits and a positive mindset don’t appear out of nowhere. Everyone needs to be taught how to take good care of themselves and everyone deserves a safe, quality skincare. Unfortunately, today’s tweens/teens are being fed an endless cycle of tips and trends in skincare by just about anyone and everyone.
This constant barrage leaves girls feeling confused, misinformed and in the worst cases- with damaged skin. There is no trusted voice in the tween skincare space. That’s where bette green comes in. We want to set the gold standard in products that introduce tweens to expect & demand a high standard in beauty from the start.
Westchester Family: How is bette green different from what’s out there?
Sarah Shooman: At the heart of bette green is the shared female beauty experience and the lifelong connection this creates between generations. A mom doesn’t just buy bette green for her daughter, she passes it down to her.
Westchester Family: We love how this is a completely different type of cleanser! Was this the original model for the line?
Sarah Shooman: Early on, I knew I wanted a clean, vegan, and cruelty-free cleanser with as many organic ingredients as possible. As time went on I realized that just as important as creating a high-quality product was creating it in a way that would actually get used. As a mom to two kids I knew being user-friendly was a non-negotiable!
Westchester Family: What are some ways you are connecting with the Westchester community about the brand?
Sarah Shooman: My family and I just relocated last summer from LA, so I’m still learning the area. bette green participated in a handful of holiday boutiques which was a great opportunity to speak and educate people about the brand.
Westchester Family: What do you like to do in Westchester when you’re not working?
Sarah Shooman: I love practicing yoga in Cross River at 02 Living Sanctuary!
