The start of June means it’s officially strawberry season, and if you love strawberries and want to have some fun with your family this summer, there are farms in and around Westchester that offer pick-your-own strawberries this season. Some farms also provide a variety of family-friendly activities that are perfect for any summer day. Start planning a fun-filled day of strawberry picking today!
Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard: Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard is a family-owned apple orchard in North Salem in Westchester County. They also grow vegetables and stone fruits, which are available for purchase in their Farm Store and through their CSA program. Their primary goal is to provide fresh foods to their community, primarily sourced from their farm and other local farmers. Fishkill Farms: With organic strawberries coming in June, make a reservation today to pick a time slot and reservations for their special events (hello, sunset yoga, cider tasting, or farm yoga). Greig Farm: Located in the Hudson Valley, Greig Farm will begin strawberry picking season in June. The season for strawberry picking runs until July, so be sure to get up to Red Hook for a day trip with your family. They don’t have any entry fee – you only pay for what you pick. Additionally, you can enjoy their on-site farm, which is filled with delicious goodies from the Hudson Valley. Lawrence Farm Orchards: Get your fresh strawberries at the nearby Lawrence Farm Orchards. The orchard recommends calling as sometimes crops can change with the weather. You can also pick peas, lettuce, spinach, and greens. 306 Frozen Ridge Road, Newburgh, NY 12550.
Ochs Orchard: Strawberry-picking season starts in June in Ochs Orchard. You don’t need a reservation to pick. Bishop Orchard: Their season kicks off in mid-June to July, which they suggest experiencing on the earlier side. While at Bishop Orchard’s, visit their farm market stocked with fresh produce, cheese, bakery items, and bulk staples. Kedler’s Farm: Take a day trip to Kerhonskon, NY, for strawberry picking at Kedler’s Farm. You have to purchase a time to pick, and once you are there, you and your family can enjoy over 25 farm attractions, a farm market, and ongoing events. 5755 US-209, Kerhonkson, NY 12446.
Jones Family Farms: If you’re looking for a fun family activity, consider going strawberry and blueberry picking at a 400-acre farm. Apart from fruit picking, the farm also offers cooking classes in its Harvest Kitchen. For adults, there’s even wine available at the Jones Winery. Visitors are advised to call the farm before heading out, as strawberry picking hours may change due to the weather. Scott’s Yankee Farmer: Scott’s Yankee Farmer, a family-owned and operated farm in Connecticut, is officially open for the season, and preparation for their Pick-Your-Own strawberry dates is underway. Bishops Orchards: Bishop’s Orchards will soon be offering strawberries as the first pick-your-own fruit of the season. This orchard carefully selects varieties that grow well in the New England soil and weather. The strawberry picking season usually starts in mid-June and ends in early July, so pick your batch as soon as possible. Samascott Orchards: June at Samascott Orchards is officially pick-your-own strawberry season, and they begin a season of fun events, like their upcoming Strawberry Festival with Nine Pin Cider. Admission fee is $5.00 per person, with a discounted price of $2.50 for seniors aged 65 and above. Children aged nine years and below and military personnel carrying ID can enter for free.
