2023 Summer Reading Programs in Westchester

Let’s make this year the summer of reading! While we are excited for the endless list of summer adventures in and around Westchester, we also love to encourage our kids to carry on the joy of reading – even when school is out. Luckily, there are several summer reading programs in Westchester where your kids can sign up and earn points for all of the hours and/or books they read! Local libraries are also hosting special events, readings, and will have prizes based on how many books your child reads. Check out more below and happy summer reading!

White Plains Library

Starting on July 2nd, kids in grades 7-12  can participate in the annual Summer Reading Game! Students can visit the Edge to record what books you read over the summer, enjoy activities and prizes! 100 Martine Ave., White Plains, NY 10601.

Yonkers Public Library

The Yonkers Public Library is hosting an “All Together Now” summer reading program for kids of all ages. Kids can log in what books they read from June 1st-August 15th. For every book that is login in, students will be entered into a drawing for an Amazon gift card. Each library branch will host its own drawing. Register here or below.

North Castle Public Library

Kids can participate in the “All Together Now” summer reading program at the North Castle Public Library.  From June 5th-August 26th, kids can enter what they read into their Google form for the chance to win amazing prizes. 19 Whippoorwill Rd E, Armonk, NY 10504

Harrison Public Library

Harrison Public Library is participating in the “All Together Now” summer reading program where kids can record their books in a reading log. All kids will receive a bracelet as well as various prizes the more books that are read. The library is also offering book events, a book club, and talks for older readers. 2 Bruce Avenue, Harrison, NY 10528

Chappaqua Library

Starting on June 2nd, kids can register via the READsquared website or app to record their summer reading. The Chappaqua Library will also be giving out Summer reading goodies, such as color-changing pencils, bookmarks, reading logs, and comet ball. Greenburgh Public Library

Sign up for the “All Together Now” summer reading program at the Greenburgh Public Library. On June 15th from 5:30pm-7:30pm, the library will be hosting a kick-off event for kids and teens with an outdoor block party featuring music, bubbles and treats. The event is free but families should register in advance. The library is also hosting a roster of fun events throughout the year, a teen summer reading challenge, and more. 300 Tarrytown Rd, Elmsford, NY 10523

Ossining Public Library

From June 24th-August 23rd, kids can participate in the “All Together Now” summer reading program at the Ossining Public Library. Kids add a sticker to their log for every 10-minutes they read as well as have the chance to play games. The library is hosting a summer reading kick-off party on June 24th for kids ages 9 and up with games, face painting, music, ice cream, and more! 53 Croton Ave, Ossining, NY 10562.

Eastchester Public Library

Eastchester Public Library is offering programming for both teens and kids over the summer. The library offers the Read-To-Me Game  (ages 0-5) or the the Summer Reading Game  (ages 5-11) where kids can track the number of minutes they are reading – or read to – in a reading log. Kids in grades 4-7 can also participate in the Battle of the Books where they battle other Westchester libraries with book trivia. 11 Oakridge Pl, Eastchester, NY 10709.

Warner Library

Kids ages 5 and up can sign up to participate in the Summer Reading Game: All Together Now. They will also have special storytimes for babies and toddlers throughout the summer. 121 North Broadway, Tarrytown NY 10591.

Briarcliff Manor Public Library

Kids, teens, and adults can participate in the “All Together Now” summer reading program at the Briarcliff Manor Public Library. 1 Library Rd, Briarcliff Manor, NY 10510.

Somers Library

Somer Library is hosting a summer reading kick-off event on June 22nd from 1:30pm -3:00pm. Kids can enjoy Juggling Fun with Jester Jim at the Pavilion at Reis Park and the chance to sign up for their summer reading program. 139 & Reis Park, Somers, NY 10589.

Croton Free Library

Kids can kick off their summer reading on June 17th at Croton Free Library.  They are launching their annual Summer Reading Program with a visit from the Bubble Bus from 11:00am to noon as well as snacks and welcome bags. 171 Cleveland Drive, Croton-on-Hudson, NY 10520.

Katonah Public Library

Katonah Public Library is kicking off their All Together Now” summer reading program on June 20th. 26 Bedford Rd, Katonah, NY 10536.

Larchmont Public Library

Kids in grades kindergarten to grade 5 can participate in the Summer of Gross program at the Larchmont Public Library. Kids can log their reading minutes for the chance to win prizes and raffle tickets. The library also has a list of summer reading books to inspire your child’s books choices. 121 Larchmont Avenue, Larchmont, NY 10538.

Mamaroneck mom, Mandy Forlenza Sticos created “My Magical Summer Reading Log” where you will find cool Unicorn and Dragon covers.

The logs are 70 pages and sized at 7.5 x 925 (great for small hands). Kids can log up to 100 books and they contain six reading challenge pages, activity prompts, and 18 pages for kids to write and journal.

Park and Read

The County is also offering a summer read-aloud program called Park and Read at various Westchester County parks. Check out the schedule below:
