Upscale Resale Shops to the Rescue

Everyone is looking for a bargain these days, especially families on a budget. Forget online deals, we found two local shops that are well worth pulling yourself away from the computer. Lil Chameleon in Tuckahoe and Girl AGain in White Plains are where real savings can be found.

With a tagline of “buy, sell, trade, relax, play,” you know right away that shopping is a pleasant experience at Lil Chameleon. This cool kid’s resale boutique offers carefully selected, new and nearly-new kid’s clothes (sizes newborn to 12), plus great toys, books and gear. Take your items to the store and receive 30 percent cash or 50 percent in store trade – what a great deal!

When we were there we spotted name brand onesies, the cutest designer outfits and an assortment of little boys’ ties that made us swoon. This upscale shop is spotless, extremely well-organized and has a friendly and spirited staff. That’s not all, pause to have a refreshing beverage or light bite in the cool café and learn about the kids’ classes, birthday packages and other events that are held onsite. Talk about one-stop-shopping! Lil Chameleon, 29 Elm St., Tuckahoe. 346-5148. LilChameleon.com.

The shelves are neatly stacked and chock-full at Girl AGain, a resale boutique with great prices on gently-used American Girl dolls, outfits, books and other accessories in White Plains. The American Girl doll line is especially popular, but can also be especially pricey. This is the place to find great items at bargain prices. The shop also offers fun doll crafts and doll care workshops for girls ages 7 and up with their American Girl dolls.

Plus, this shop is a place for young women with autism to learn job and social skills needed for the workplace. The owners teach these women all aspects of store operations including preparing merchandise, customer interaction and sales.

There’s free parking at The Seasons garage. Girl AGain, 4 Martine Ave., White Plains. 358-1460. girlagain.com.
