This Veterans Day you and your kids can learn more about local veterans as well as celebrate and pay homage to their acts of service. Below, we are sharing a list of local events and activities to help you and your kids learn more about significance of Veterans Day.

October 29th
Battle of White Plains Commemoration

Families are invited to learn more about 1776 Battle of White Plains with the White Plains Historical Society. This includes visiting an army camp and the opportunity to talk to a Native American, blacksmiths, a surgeon, a wool spinner, and more.  Plus, kids will have the opportunity to make colonial tricorn hats and to drill with the troops. Visit the Westchester County Veterans Museum

Take a trip to the Westchester County Veterans Museum with your kids. Located at Lasdon Park, families will learn more about the story of the self-sacrifice and hardships of Westchester residents who answered their country’s call to duty in time of need, from the Revolutionary War to the present. Children must be at least 7 years old and the museum is free. New York State Route 35, Somers, NY.

Vets Rock 2023

Take a trip to Mohegan Sun to enjoy a celebration of veterans at Vets Rock. The event kicks off with an opening ceremony as well as a live performance and singing of the National Anthem performed by Norwich Free Academy Choir. 1 Mohegan Sun Boulevard, Uncasville, CT 06382.

2023 Yorktown Veterans Day Parade

Families are invited to attend the annual Yorktown Veterans Day parade! Veterans and veterans groups are invited to begin the march at Lakeland High School main parking lot, along with any flags and banners.
