Wow, here is happy news that we have all been waiting for. The Westchester Children’s Museum (WCM), a grass-roots effort made possible by countless volunteer hours and generous donations, is opening its doors this month!
Some 4,000 square feet of interactive, hands-on exhibits are set to open on May 9 in the historic Rye Playland Bathhouses, coinciding with the opening of Playland Amusement Park.
Children are invited to explore science, art, music and nature and to play and create while enjoying the seven fun, educational exhibits. Building will continue throughout the summer as the WCM looks to develop the overall 22,000-square-foot space and stay open year round.
“The unveiling of the first true exhibit space of the Westchester Children’s Museum is absolutely one of the most exciting and gratifying moments in our history,” comments Corinne Zola, President of the Campaign for the Westchester Children’s Museum. “This is it, the Westchester Children’s Museum is officially opening its doors, and as our fundraising allows, we will continue to expand and stay open year round. We are grateful to all those who have put their time, expertise and support behind this initiative. The hundreds of thousands of school-age children in our region will thrive in this new safe, welcoming and motivating place to explore and learn.”
As a special thank you to the community the WCM is offering a pay-what-you-wish admission policy over the summer. Daily hours of operation can be found on the WCM website. Westchester Children’s Museum, Playland Parkway, Rye. 421-5050. discoverwcm.org.
