Afraid of the Water?

There’s a very large group of people who suffer from aquaphobia (or also known as hydrophobia), an extreme fear of being in or near water. This overwhelming fear is shared by millions, estimated to be as high as one out of 10 people. Now that summer is here many children will be looking for ways to cool off either in a home, a community or a camp pool. A child with aquaphobia is going to have a tough time. Even the best swim instructors are often stymied in dealing with children that are affected by aquaphobia.

Now, Jeff Krieger, MS, the founder and director of the S.O.A.P. Program (Strategies for Overcoming Aquatic Phobias) is offering this specialized program designed to help children and adults overcome aquaphobia at the Saw Mill Club in Mt. Kisco. The program is offered in six-week cycles. For more information call 727-741-3088. www.waterphobias.com. www.sawmillclub.com/swim/adult-swim-programs.
