Yonkers Comic Celebration and Convention Showcases Original Superheroes Addressing Social Issues Through Nonviolence
Have you heard of nonviolent comic books? Incredibly, the Yonkers Comic Celebration and Convention in Yonkers is highlighting original superheroes who confront social issues without violence in Yonkers.
Curated by ArtsWestchester grant recipient Evan Bishop, an artist whose work features Hip Hop culture and the Black experience, the Yonkers Comic Celebration and Convention (YC3) is a celebration of art, storytelling, and social impact through a diverse range of artwork featuring superheroes as catalysts for positive change. This also includes the showcase of social issues such as bullying, war, human rights, education equality, environmental concerns, mental health, and more.
About the exhibit, Evan said, “We are excited to bring this unique exhibition to the city of Yonkers, showcasing the extraordinary talent and creativity of local artists. Through the power of comics and graphic storytelling, we hope to inspire dialogue, raise awareness, and encourage a nonviolent approach to confronting social challenges.”
Families will enjoy an immersive experience such as vivid illustrations, thought-provoking narratives, diverse perspectives and imaginative storytelling techniques from featured artists.
